Hi everyone.  I'm rebuilding a 1988 998cc A+

All the rocker arms all show wear on the pads, like this:

But the ones at the ends of the shaft have a deeper indentation, they look like this:

... and the one at the other end:

Do I need to replace all the rockers?  or just the 2 at the ends of the shaft?  or can they be somehow reconditioned?

They do look past it to me, but I have never seen ones that worn before.. were the tappets as they are often called adjusted properly or were they hammering away.... I would check the shaft and valve guides for wear too

They can usually be re-ground, but those are even past that.

Replace.

Disassembly started as soon as I got the engine, never ran it, so no idea of the rockers' 'life history'.   I checked the guide-to-stem clearance and found half of them were out of spec so replaced all of them. Also new valves.

Just wondering, why is it that the pads on the 2 rockers at the ends of the shaft are the most worn ones.  Could it be they don't get as much lubrication as the middle ones?  or they get exposed to more heat / less cooling?

Heat treatment was probably so so consistent on those items.

Used to see a lot of rockers with that kind of wear, or even worse, back in the day.
