Hi all

Just starting my project to reassemble from a bare shell. Do you have any tips/recommendations on assembly sequence? I.e is there any steps that are easier done in a particular order?

I did strip down the old shell but this is a new heritage one and starting from scratch is a pretty steep learning curve :-)

Thanks in advance,

Put your fuel line, brake line and battery cable in before the sub frames.

Put your wiring loom in before you put the head lining in.

Head lining and c pillar trim needs to be in before the glass is fitted.

Put the fuel tank in before fitting the boot lid.

These are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

Brave man doing a bare shell build.. I confess, never done one... and I would prob end up fitting and removing many pieces many times and fitting them again... Good luck, and I would be keen to know the order you find best ... personally I think the loom would be by far the hardest bit, and I would test each connector before "really" fitting it.. I would hate to tuck it all away nicely to then find out some of it did not work

Thanks guys. Just trying to avoid having to strip stuff back off if I miss something. The manuals don’t really cater for a complete assembly so it’s needing lots of research.

I’ve now done the pipe work and rear sub - front sub is next in line I think...single garage isn’t helping much at this stage. I might look at the loom next then as that does makes sense to fit before I progress much further.

Thanks again,

I'll probably miss some bits but I do it in roughly this order.

Brake line front to back
Fuel line
Battery cable
Assemble and fit the rear sub frame incl shock absorbers
Fit handbrake lever and cables
Fit steering rack
Assemble front sub frame and fit
Put wheels on
Lower to ground
Run front and rear looms
Fit pedal box and master cylinders
Run remaining solid brake lines on the front end
Centralise steering rack and fit steering column
Fit rear lights
Fit fuel tank
Fit headlining
Top and bottom dash rails
Fit front and rear screens plus rear quarter windows
Fit wiper motor
Put engine in from the top
Exhaust and gear selector
Lights and bright work
Install heater
Instrument cluster
Carpets, seats and trim
Hang doors
Fit bootlid

By then you should have most of it done in the right order and the rest can go in.
I usually leave the bonnet off until it's up and running and make it one of the last things to go on.

If I think of anything I missed or if anyone else does, I can edit to suit

Good luck
Ben

Bonnet and grille go on last if removable.

For me it's run the front to rear, fuel lines and battery cable.

Build the radius arms up so they'll fit once the subframe is on the car.

Route handbrake cable and fit radius arms

Fit steering rack and centralise the rack.

Fit front subframe fitting the hubs, calipers etc later once the frame is on.
Fit front brake pipes and connect all that up.

Car should now be able to get put onto ramps or onto its wheels.

Fit top dash rail and rest of the interior before the windows go in.

Doors on once the engine is in and its running.

Hope this helps
