I have a pair of twin hs4 rebuilt carbs on my mk1 historic replica, that i am plumbing in before a specialist comes to help me get the engine started and tuned.

The car will have a 1 litre catch can so the breathers on the carbs where the hoses would have been plumbed to before are not needed. Can these be blanked off with a silicone boot or is it something that also needs to be vented with a filter on also?

The carbs also have an overflow on each of the carb fuel bowls again can these be blanked off or does it have to be piped somewhere to safely allow it to drain if the float fails? Dont really like the idea of throwing fuel all over the road!

I am no means an engine specialist so any help is much appreciated.

This is my build thread on the mk1:

The breather pipes on the carbs will need blanking off. I removed the brass tubes from mine, tapped a thread down the bore and screwed in a cap head bolt then ground the end of the bolt flush with the throat of the carb body.
The fuel over flow pipes are the vents for the float chambers. Don't block them. Fit a hose and route it out of harm's way.

Thanks imack, so the overflow pipes i could just run a copper or rubber line to somewhere like next to the radiator outlet overflow?

Yeah, anywhere away from the exhaust. Just make sure the pipes got a fall on it away from the float chambers.
