I have removed the fuel tank and planning some basic refurb.  I was considering to clean and seal the tank with tank sealant like this:

Is this worth the effort.  My tank has some surface rust on the inside, but not too much.

Also, is there a mounting pad under the tank?  Or does the metal tank sit directly on the boot floor?

I used this on my 1936 Alvis fuel tank and it worked perfectly. The main thing is preparation to make sure that it is completely cleaned out and dried.

I've used the POR15 system & it worked perfectly.

However a word of warning: some Mini fuel pick up pipes have a mesh filter inside the tank, it's hard to do but make sure you mask it off - a friend didn't bother & ended up having to destroy the mesh to get any fuel to come out!

I was unaware of the mesh filter when I sealed my tank, totally blocked it up. I ended up drilling it out carefully and fitting an inline fuel filter between the tank and the hard fuel line.

It also blocked the vent pipe on the top of the tank
