Hi, just complete refresh of my rod change gear box, new bearings, seals, syncs etc put it back together now can't get 1st,2nd or 3rd. Can get 4th and reverse. I have stripped the diff out again and can see the 1st and 2nd selector fork is displaced towards the front of the box.
The side effect problem getting in the way of rectification is that the rod selector and outer interlock won't move anticlockwise to allow me the select 1st and 4th at the same time so I can undo the big nut on the first motion shaft. Something is blocking it, can't see what but it is a hard metallic block. I'll disassemble it somehow but anyone got any ideas what the block is? I managed easily to do it when I stripped the box down to refresh it, now can't?

Problem solved, don't know how it happened but can't blame anyone but myself, I am sure I checked it went into all gears when I rebuilt it! However as a salutary example to anyone rebuilding gearbox pictures below. First selector in wrong position, 2nd in the correct position, 3rd the interlock that isn't mentioned in manualAttached File  20210106_172646.jpg   55.84K   0 downloadsAttached File  20210106_172617.jpg   50.81K   0 downloadsAttached File  20210106_172540.jpg   61.06K   0 downloads

Pictures above in wrong order 1 and 2 should be other way round. The manual says rotate the selector rods anticlockwise to allow 1st and 4th gear to be put together so you can lock the gearbox inorder loosen the first motion shat large nut. This bus where the detent fits needs to be pulled out first, difficult if its tight!

Glad it's come good.

I can see in the very first photo that 1st / 2nd Bellcrank had slipped behind the Interlock when it was re-engaged, effectively locking it in 2nd gear, while some of the other gears could also be selected.

When re-assembling it, be sure it's in Neutral when re-engaging the Interlock and that the Bellcranks, particularly 1st / 2nd have remained engaged in the selector forks and that the slots where the interlock runs through are all lined up.
