Hi All,
I've seen a couple of YouTube videos of engine rebuilds and they have have used a yellow frame that you can lay the pistons, crankshaft etc on. Anyone know what it's called and of course I can't find the videos now.

I have this one;-
It was a gift, but, being honest, I never use it. It's really only for valve train parts, but even those for cranks, rods, pistons etc,,,,, I wouldn't personally use.
They all seem to have little pockets in them that have 'hard corners' that would be hard to clean and keep clean. Also, being a type of plastic, they scratch easily and the scratches can hold 'dirt'. I have seen a few metal ones, which is some ways would be better, but still can be hard to clean and all metal ones I have seen are a hammer tone black - makes it quite hard to see any dirt on it. Just about all the ones I've seen are for V8's but can equally used for just about automotive engine assembly.
I have a few shiny metal backing trays that I prefer to use, nice pressed rounded corners, no where for dirt to hide and easy to see if there is any dirt in there. Bring a tray that's only about 2 - 3 inches deep, they are easy to cover over when not being accessed.
Pistons I assemble to the Rods and then 'store' them up-side-down in the box the Pistons came in. When it's time to fit them, it's out of the box and final clean, fit rings fit to block - all without leaving my hands (ie, I don't put them down anywhere after that final clean).

Hi Spider, thank you, that's the one! Thank you for the advice I won't be buying one of them if I ever get round to rebuilding an engine
Thanks
Darren

I use old baking trays for parts trays, like Spider says much easier to keep clean.
