Hi all,

I've seen a 1968 MK2 Cooper LHD for sale.

I have seen on the pictures that it has the later bigger square washer bottle fixed on the inner wing, and has an alternator fitted. Could it be right for a 1968 Cooper?

The rest of the car seems to be compliant with an MK2 (boot board fixings, Hydro, 160kph, drip rails and mk2 doors...)

What is a restoration project worth? Rust does not seem to be too bad, the car seems to be complete. The asking price is roughly 9000 €

Not the same as my 1968 but it could be that the export spec is different. It's probably been upgraded to an alternator, any evidence of a voltage regulator? Easy to convert back.

Price seems ok if it's got it's cooper paperwork, and it's other wise complete (speedo, cooper trim etc)

Thank you for your answer.

The regulator should be mounted on the RH inner wing? That square black box? Nope, it's not assembled in the car. I am also not sure if the alternator is factory fitted as I saw restored MK2 first registered in France having a dynamo. I think the alternator only came with the MK3.

The rest seems to be ok.

Should it have recliner seats for a non-"S" ?

Reclining seats were never standard fitting in any Mk.2 Mini, but you could buy them and have them fitted to any Mini by a dealer.
The thing to remember is that any 50+ year old car is unlikely to be completely original. Most cars will have been fitted with an alternator and the original washer bottle volume was a bit small.

Thank you Cooperman, I thought the reclining were standard in a MK2 S.

That's a good point too, thanks to remember that. Maybe I'm dreaming too strong for the cheap perfect original car and of course nearly as new :)
