Car's been sat for a at least a month in my warmish garage. It needs an oil change but other than take the car out just to warm the oil for a change, I was going to do it cold, as I'd imagine all the oil thats going to fall to the bottom of the sump would have done so by now.

I usually do it warm but thought I'd ask. Also, I have ordered and received a K&N filter (one with the nut on the bottom) , it looks longer than the usual ones I get, assume it will be ok?

I would imagine the crud would fall to the bottom when cold and warming and agitating it mixes it back up but draining it cold leaves the crud still in the bottom thus contaminating the new oil very quickly.

I would leave it as is until you start to drive it again and then change it but that is just my thoughts,Steve..

I usually jack up the passenger side (RHD car) and let it drain cold, remember to clean the magnet on the end of the sump plug.

Thanks all, and yes I will leave it dripping for a day or so. Good shout on jacking up the left hand side.

I change the oil twice a year, about every 2500 miles, but always when its hot.  I enjoy the feeling of hot oil on my fingers when I pull the drain plug. ;D

It won't matter in grand scheme of things.
