My Mini is a 1990 998cc 4 speed HS4 carb. Over the past year i have done a lot of work to my car and got it so it runs great. Just as i was comfortable with everything i started to get this weird shake or vibration @ about 30 mph and again @ around 50 mph. After a few miles it seems to go away. Last year i replaced the pot joints, engine steady, (2 on the bottom one on top) new brake pads, calipers, discs, drive flange, cv joints, hubs, bearings ball joints, lower arm pins, tear drop mountings on front subframe. I rotated the tires. It has had an alignment a few months ago and i have not hit any pot holes. Can someone help me out here? ..           I'm lost. Thanks     Gary

Did you check the engine mounts?

A dodgy wheel weight could be a culprit.

I would also go with wheel weights as a starter point

Wheel balance might be culprit.

Does anyone use balance beads that go inside the tire? Ive used these on my motorbikes past few years and they really do a great job. Thinking to try them on mini when I get fresh rubber in a few months.

I have before. They work quite fantastic. The higher the tire the better they work.

As you've already rotated the tires with no change you could try rebalancing the wheels.

Have you checked for play in the steering rack?

I had a similar problem with an MGB,the wheel nuts were not clamping the wheels properly due to wear on the nuts and wheels holes.Needed new wheels and nuts. You may be luckier.Steve..

I had this on my 1980 estate, turns out the wheels (10 Inc Rostyles) weren't for a mini OR were so old that the stud holes had ovalled around the wheel nuts. They're in the scrap pile now 😳

Is it engine vibration or body/steering? It doesn’t sound like a wheel problem to me as you say it goes away after a while. If it’s engine vibration I would be checking the harmonic balancer. I had bad vibration at certain revs that would lesson after it got warmed up - replaced the balancer as the rubber was hard and splitting and vibration problem solved.
