Hello,

I've bought someone elses project not to long ago, which came with a shell already sprayed in a underbody coating and sitting on both subframes.

Despite me removing and rebuilding both subframes, I didnt notice the spacer in the photo before as the coating effectively holds it in place. I didn't notice any stress while aligning the bolts and doing them up either.

Now that I was doing up the rear brakes, I suddenly spotted this spacer plate between the body and the subframe mount and don't recall seeing one in the schematic pictures. Obviously someone made one to fit, so I wonder if I'm just overlooking the fact that they should be there in the first place or if there is a good reason to make and install one..

It could well be there to square things up following a poor repair or poorly aligned replacement panels.

Ultimately it shouldn't be there but if its serving a purpose, then it may as well stay I guess.

The only slight concern is the lack of thread on the rear most bolt protruding from the lock nut bit I doubt it would cause any issues.

Thanks; the thread would obviously be long enough if there was no spacer, it's one of the reasons it became oddly obvious to me now.

If it's not supposed to be there and not needed for unknown reasons either, I suppose this could be added stress on the front bolts as they'd effectively be bent in some way.

Are there any measurements I could follow to figure out if this is needed or not? e.g. run a 2x4 along the sill to the back and measure if the subframe is the same distance vertically at the front and the back? I don't know how it would normally sit in that sense.

Is there a plate on both sides or only one?

Does seem very odd unless as said above "accident / replacement" panel alignment, or a wheel was rubbing the arch and rather than sort the suspension they decided to slip that spacer in to "heighten" the car
