Hi
Just received a turbo manifold gasket from Retrominis, it has a metal side and a fabric type side, which way does it go on the car metal to cylinder head or metal to inlet ?
Thank you 🙏

Had a read and from what I can gather the metal side faces the inlet manifold and the fabric type side again the engine block ?

Hi Lee,

From memory when I fitted mine, the metal side goes against the head and the exhaust fire rings sit against the exhaust manifold ports.

If you think about it, the metal side would sit against the head face so that you have flat metal against flat metal. Then the fire ring side match up with the manifold exhaust ports.......... I think!

Cheers, Steve.

That was my thought to be honest as last time I fitted it metal to the manifold and gasket not to the head and spend ages scraping the gasket off the head

Any more thoughts on this I’m still not convinced,
Minispares website is saying metal to manifold and alot of conflicting answers on here 🤷‍♂️ Very confusing

Hi again Lee,

After some more googling I found the below statement on Minispares website. It’s a description for fitment of the manifold to injection Minis but states this gasket can be used for turbo installations as well.

so to recap, it looks like metal face towards manifold!

Cheers, Steve.

Special reinforced gasket for injection cars has metal inserts on exhaust ports plus a metal back on the manifold side which makes surface easier to clean when replacing. Often used on Turbo cars now when correct gasket is in short supply.

smooth metal side goes towards manifold
