This engine is currently up for auction, I don't want to ask the seller directly for fear of the bidding going excessively high if others can see the sellers responses. But wondering looking at the ports this doesn't look like a standard 1098cc head? My guess is 12G295 or its been heavily ported? But I'm hoping some of you who have seen a lot more than me might know or have a better guess. I have 2 1456 heads and the inlet ports are tiny and I was under the impression the 202 head is much the same just slightly bigger inlet valves. Hopefully noone else has looked that close and I can get it cheap, as I only really want the head for a fast 998 I want to build

I reckon it’s a 12G202 head from an 1100 engine.

Looks like a std 12g202 to me

If you are only after the head they are only about £50 here in the uk but will need work to run as a fast road

I’m just having a12g202 head done at the Moment

It is being fully ported, chambers opened up, new unleaded seats, head skimmed to correct compression ratio new valves and guide bushes, new double springs and Collets

It’s costing me £720

I think that’s a good price compared to a new staged head

This is an example of the guys work

Thanks guys i knew you know straight away. Yes I see the obvious now, the 295 manifold facing is shaped similar to the gasket, the 202 is completely flat.

This changed during production- early 202 heads will have the same scalloped manifold face

A bit of further 'Google imaging' lead me to guess that too. I eventually found 202s with the shaped face and 295s with the flat face 🙂 Most likely just bid on it and work it out if I get it. Didnt think I would be a 295 but never know your luck, my cousin picked up a complete 1275 engine still sitting in a complete Austin 1300 subframe for NZ$60 (around £25) with possible siezed bottom end, the other day! No amount of begging could convince him to give me the head when he found out what the engine was worth it was gone for $400 the next day

Wasn’t that a lyric from the Beatles’ ‘“Penny Lane”?
