Have a little seepage from around the distributor. Any suggestions for size/material/thickness for replacement o ring? Standard one doesn’t seem up to the job.

‘Standard one doesn’t seem much good’ - do you mean a new standard one or a old one?

Mini spares or mini mania sell them. I may have the wrong one installed. A+/pre A+ are not the same. Time for a trip to the hardware store.

Are you sure it is from the dizzy? And not from higher up.

rare to leak from there if the breathers are set up correctly.

Not really a leak. More of a seep, weep or ooze.  Valve cover gasket is dry.  I think the o ring rubber is probably hardened and not sealing as well as it should.

I didn't realize that there are two different o rings, one for A+, the other pre.  I had ordered one without knowing the difference, the pre A+ is much thinner, not as robust as the other.  Ordered the correct one(s) from Mini Spares.

As closely as I can measure, the recess for the o ring has a diameter of 15/16”-approximately .093”. (A+)

I had a similar issue once, the shaft bush was slightly worn and it only developed a heavy stain after days / weeks of long high RPM runs. Otherwise, with a new O Ring on the body, I can't say I've had an issue.

I didn't know that either. I have a packet of ones for the Distributor (and I don't know if they are A or A+ now) and another packet for the Sleeve that's on the A type blocks. I replace them as a matter of routine when doing an engine build.

I've always thought they were the same too, and have only ever used one (the MiniSpares one) for both distributors without issue (and the correct one for the A series sleeve which is obviously a chunk bigger diameter).

I've seen lots of Lucas Distributors with worn shafts and bushings, oil finds its way up the shaft and runs out the tiny hole in the body, MGBs suffer like lots of the Lucas fitted vehicles

If its not the Dizzy it could be blowing out the dip stick, On my racer a clutch spring keeps the dip stick firmly in its hole

My only reference for two different applications is from the Mini Spares web site.  A search for distributor o ring shows two o rings, one for the actual distributor shaft for A+, the other for the spindle housing (pre A +).  My mistake.
