Hi everyone, i bought my Mini over 10 years ago which has been stored at my parents. The first couple of years where brilliant having the free time to work on it, but as always life takes us down different paths and the car came to a stop. I have always wanted to carry on with my project but relocation and family commitments made it difficult, i recently change my job and found my new manager shared a love of classic cars and offered the workshop as new home. After a late night collection my Mini now has a new dry home close to my home.

Nice to see another 1989 Racing (Green). What's the plan for it?

I plan on 1275 engine, superlites, Cooper arches, adjuster ride, centre exit exhaust and maybe some more subtle upgrades

While waiting for some metal and a couple of panels to arrive i made a start on the O/S wheel arch and quarter panel only to find the heal board is rotten and bodged up by a poor repair.

I also cut the A panels off removed the doors only to find more filler. The pillars that the A Panels mount to are going to need repairing too.

Great start on your project, don't be dismayed when you find more rot than expected, they always are worse than they look, but if you've gone this far there's no turning back, so just get stuck in and go!

here's mine....

Thank you, I certainly won’t be dismayed. I’m loving working on the Mini again and excited for the end result even if it is a long way off. I can’t wait to drive a Mini for the first time.

Your Mini looks in amazing condition. Are those sportspack arches ?

Right so this week has not gone to plan i had all the best intentions to go to the workshop on Saturday morning but my dad's car decided otherwise dumping all it's coolant.

This last week i have been busy trying to rebuild the edging on the boot floor so spot the arch too, this is not the finish product.

i also made an error following the original edge where the floor had been cut out to much.

I also had a few packages delivered, some spot weld drills, heal board repair section and arch strengtheners, so once the coolant leak is sorted on my dad's car i will be back on it.

This week started brilliant being on the afters shift meant i had time to get down the workshop while my son was at nursery and my wife was at work.

I managed to get the wheel arch into place and spot welded in. i took the decision to seam weld around the boot floor and the arch not sure weather this is the right thing to do or not but i had a gap that i needed to fill. I plan lead loading around the seem and patch in the boot to make a nice flush finish.

Unfortunately the snow stopped play Tuesday closing nursery. Due to the weather conditions it was a quiet night at work last night so i managed to mock the arch up, i also prepped the area for the heal board repair section tacced the panel into place and offered up the sub frame. my panel seems to be out by 8mm, i have ordered some new sub frame bushes to make sure it lines up correctly when i re-seat it.

On a final note i need to fit a radius arm and alloy to see how the 13x7 fit under the arch, this will make my decision if i change to Miglia arches.

Always amuses me when I see wide wheels large flares and lowered and then have grooves on the tyres where the original arch lip contacts the tyre. You seem well aware of this though and looks to be a sterling effort.Enjoy,Steve..
