Has anyone fitted a top engine steady bar to the radiator side of a hydro suspension mk1/2/3 ?

If so, which one fits and doesn't get in the way of the hydro pipe?

Not looked at hydro car for a long time. Where does the pipe run?

I guess you are concerned about the connection to the plate. You should have no problems with the DSN Retrosport one.

and the arm can be very easily swung of of the way.

all the others are a right pain in the butt to move out of the way.

Thanks Nick, hydro pipe comes up alongside the fuel pipe I think. Maybe the  DSN would be OK. The 2 usual suspects, to thermostat cover or water pump I think would be problematic at the bulkhead end. Might have to fit the underneath ones if top ones won't go.

Poor picture I know but you can see the layout. Unfortunately the shell is with the welding guru at the moment so can't take a better piccie.

It will be fine. The DSN bracket attaches to the two central and left ( looking from the front) studs/holes so will have plenty of clearance.

There was 2 similar but slightly different Australian types used in Production that were fitted to all Mokes and Minis once they changed to the Rod Shift Gearbox.

I'll find some photos of both. One of these will fit for sure.

Just as a follow up on this subject. I contacted DSN and any other supplier that I could find and none offered a steady bar that would fit a hydro car on the LH side. DSN said that they hadn't considered hydro cars in their design. Moss said that they thought their water pump steady bar would likely fit but it doesn't without jamming up against the hydro union and forcing it out of position. I'm going to contact them to see if they could modify their bulkhead plate to overcome this problem.

Just like to thank Spider for his input on this and pictures of his own bulkhead plates he's made for Mokes for thermostat plate fixing.

Until I can drop an engine in for positioning I'm going to pause this problem.

The DSN on would still be a better option as it is mounted to the left of that pipe.

DSN say it wouldn't fit.

And I found DSN were not too sure about their steadies as well. Having fitted one I would say it would be a piece of piss to do. It uses three mounts to the center of the car and that hose would be fine as is.

the brake union is going through the outer of two clutch/brake holes in the cross member.

remains of an “ultimate” steady visible under the cables etc.

I'll have to study form when I drop the lump in. I've added another picture showing the fuel pipe alongside the hydro pipe.

Thanks for the photo of the DSN Nick.

Looking in DSN's catalogue it looks like it would - sits on the other side of the fuel line. Or you could fabricate a new plate for the one you have, doesn't look far off.
