Hi All,

All this talk of values got me thinking, I wondered what people’s predictions are for the state of the Mini market in 10 years time, as I for one didn’t predict such a rise 10 years ago.

Are we going to be looking at £100k+ for a Cooper S, £50k for an 850, you get the idea....

I doubt they will get to that much. I predict a real 1275gt getting into the cooper s bracket though!

Judging by last year I don’t think anyone can predict 2031.

There will be bean counters around the globe doing predictions, no reason why the mini community can’t!

Judging by last year I don’t think anyone can predict 2031.

Here's my prediction:
Already valued cars like S, 60s Cooper, Moke and Pickup models will raise their market value only slightly.
Saloon and Riley/Wolseley, if in original condition and good bodywork condition, will double current value.
I don't expect 1275gt will get near 60's Cooper models value as it is already gone up in value recently.

Depends surely on what happens with all this electric car stuff?

I can't see new petrol cars being banned by 2030. But if it did, used petrol cars I think would rocket in value. And presumably that would have a knock on effect on classics as well?

It's quite hard to see where they are going to go from here and I'm in fact wondering if around the past few and the next few years prices for classics will have peaked and possibly may even go back a bit ?

I come to this by looking at where the world Governments are pushing us in regards to personal transport, the future availability & price of fuel as well as the age group of those who are snapping up classics as for many, these were the cars in their days when they were younger, but they couldn't afford them back then or were unable to keep them as life took over.

Possibly the 'Wild Card' in all this is the fairly silent group of (professional) Car Collectors.

I predict that minis will fall through the floor, when I say floor I really mean the potholes in the roads!

Most classics rocket in value due to nostalgia, my dad had one, I had one as a first car etc, those wishing to relive those days push values higher... Minis like all classics will have their hey day values, and then as time moves on to people who never owned one, didnt know anyone who owned one and they have no nostalgia... at this time values will fall as only "real" car enthusiasts will want them, prob as an investment not because they "like" them... You will find now that 50s cars are not worth what they were as the nostaligic people for those start to sadly die out...

So, prices for your average mini will peak prob in the next 10 years or so, then fall, good rare examples like Cooper 'S' will prob stay around the 70 to 90 K mark and will end up in collectors arms never to be used

That is a fair prediction. However because the Mini was in production until 2000, there will be people, granted not many, that were children at that time and their parents may of had one, and hence that nostalgia thing may carry on well into the the 2040s and 50s. Especially as a 2000 mini will be tax exempt in 2040. We will have to wait and see!
