Do I need or is it advisable to service the servo before it goes back in. Is it an easy job?

Was the servo working when it was removed? If it was purchased as a part, do you know anything of the car it came from to gauge mileage, if it has stood a long time?
Regarding difficulty, is it a remote or direct servo? There are no instructions in Haynes on the latter but it is detailed elsewhere on the Forum.
