Hi,

My Mini Clubman Estate Turbo has a full MG Metro Turbo Brake setup.

This means master cilinder, split lines, 4 pot calipers, hubs, pedals, everything.

I now have 12” wheels fitted, but would like to change to 10” wheels, so I will have to change the brakes.

I have been looking around for a simple solution, but mainly the split lines seem to be the problem.

there are no small calipers that will take 2 lines. (Or am I wrong?)

I believe the bulkhead, where the master cilinder sits, has been modded to take the Metro cilinder (correct me if I’m wrong) so changing to standard Mini master cilinder and single lines is not very easy and is not my first choice.
Are there any other options or is that the only way to go?

cheers

Harold

Could you block one side off, such as deleting pipe work 8, and just run one hose to each side or delete the 4 way splitter so the front and rears are on seperate lines then delete the not in use lines. Ore leave all pipe wor in situ and cap the number 6 outlet on the servo? Only guessing, Im intrigued to find out the correct answer.

Pictures of your MC set up as to fit a Metro MC it would be a big job so let’s check with what you actually have. Also pictures of the hubs.

For the Hydraulics, I'd suggest similar to what Maccmike8 has suggested, only I'd suggest blocking off Pipe 10 at the 4 way splitter (A 3/8" Bleed Nipple usually sorts that easy enough). That way you can retain a front / rear split system and using Calipers for 7.5" Discs.

Is your Master Servoed and Non-servo? The Early Metros (like mine) didn't have a Servo, while I've not checked, it does appear that one of these Non-servo Masters will bolt straight up to a Mini Pedal Box. Either way, it can be left as is.

Do these help?

Are more pics needed?

Id remove pipes 10 and 11 and blank the outlets on the 4 way.

...or make up a new line, or two, to eliminate the 4 way and just have the straight connector (4). Wonder if that's an early Metro or Mini master cylinder? Metty unions are Metric, Mini UNF if you're unsure. You've done a good job of hiding the clutch master!

Never mind, just realised the servo is even better hidden  :shy:

The master cylinder is Metro, I’m sure of that, it has been renewed last year by my mini garage and they confirmed that, because it was not an easy find.

The entire brake setup is from a Metro.

As far as I know even all pedals. They sit fairly high, not that that matters, I’m used to it, works fine.

Thanks for the hidement credits  :-) , but the builder deserves them, not me, I bought it like this.

Maybe a new brakeline with two-way splitter is better, but if I blank off the connectors to line 10 and 11 of the 4-way splitter, won’t that affect the brakepressure or pedal-throw?

Do cooper S calipers and discs fit straight away, a simple bolt-on? (On metro hubs)

That's a good point, you probably will need new hoses. Not 100% but I think the Metty hoses will also be metric. The length is a bit different anyway, you'll have to look at the inboard connectors to the piping - Mini hoses bolt through the subframe to fit a male unf pipe fitting or a banjo bolt on one side. Could well be easier to get some hoses made up.

Shouldn't effect the throw, as Moke said you could use bleed screws, or a M10x1 bolt with a copper washer if the splitter is made flat enough to seal.

Metro 4 pots are getting hard to find, so don't chuck 'em. If they're in reasonable nick you might get a bit for them to towards your conversion cost.

I will sell the 4 pots when I’ve replaced them.

Will cooper S calipers and discs fit straight away on the Metro hubs?
