Hallo,

I bought Austin Metro Vanden Plas with 1275 engine. European version, left hand drive.

Please can you help me with engine identification?

Is this original Vanden Plas engine?

Engine number 12H897AA 201721

Cylinder Head number 12G940

Inlet Valve Size 33,3mm

Exhaust Valve Size 29,3mm

The previous owner claims that the engine is original.

Thanks

Martin from Czech Republic

If I recall right, they have the same engine spec as the MG Metro.

Depends on the year.

1982

VP 9.4:1 CR

MG 10.5:1

1985/6

VP and MG 10.5: 1

Thank you. I dont know a manufacture year.

I dont have a car anymore. A took a engine and 4 pot brakes for my mini.

Are there some technical differences on the engine (which i can meassure etc.) by which I would recognize the engine from a standard metro engine?

The mk1 Vdp used the normal 62hp engine. The mk2 used the MG unit, but for Europe it used a milder version of the MG cam for better emissions and smoother running with less overlap lift. It’a still a good cam.

This pictures show a mk1 type engine I would assume this to be a normal 62bhp version, which is a good thing!

62 php is still very good. Now I have about 40.

On the web i found this specifications which is better :-) and i reeealy hope for it.

Metro Vanden Plas: 1984–89: 1275 cc A-Series I4, 71 hp (54 kW) at 6000 rpm and 75 lb·ft (99 Nm) at 4000 rpm (Metro Vanden Plas).

A found a photo of Metro. Is it the mk1 Vdp? I added a photo to the original post
