So I have replaced my quarter window seal for my hinged window. But now my windows don't sit square. The leading/front edge is flushed with the body but the rear edge is not flushed. Sticks out about 1-2cm.

Anyone experienced this before and any luck in resolving it?

Have you used the correct seal and not one for the fixed windows?

Affirmative. I've attached the pics for reference.

Can you show a picture of the seal?

I've got no chance to take a clear pic due to lighting.have attached a similar seal type instead.

That's the correct type of seal. How does it compare to the old one for size? It's a generic sort of moulding, so you could have got something similar, but not specific.

New rubber tends to be harder so it may take time to "squish" ..

Are your opening hinges solid or loose at the mounting screws?

the hinge and mounting are tight. old ones are definitely flatter. but i don't think it would have resulted in such difference. One of the possibility is that it is pinching too much on the leading edge causing the trailing edge to be alleviated. But the front is flushed and it does not look like it is overtightened.

Think you're on the money there. The hinges make quite an indentation in even the rubbers they left the factory with.

Push on the glass carefully. If you can close the gap without too much effort, some packing under the catch may pull it in. Suppose you could even  rig up a ratchet strap & some lengths of timber as a tribute to orthodontists.  :P

Looks like a generic type seal.Close the window without it in,measure the gap, then search for a seal of this size. Not original perhaps but would be my choice.Steve..

My opening quarter light seals were like this when first fitted. The rubber will soften slightly and the windows will eventually sit a bit more flush with the body aperture.

As suggested, gently pushing on the window from the outside will help squash the rubbers in a little.

Cheers, Steve.

Thanks for the great help. Gonna put some rubber grease ard the seams and see if helps. On the seal, are there difference sizes?

Shouldn't be, but there are plenty of similar generic mouldings that could be sold for the job. Did you buy it from a Mini specialist?

The last time I replaced mine, a few years ago, the bit that fits on the metal flange had a ridged appearance like the originals. The seal had a square more compact appearance as opposed to the round one in your image. It's quite a small space that the seal and window have to fit inside.

A couple of examples
