The bonnet gap on my clubman is terrible on one side.

I have replaced the whole front end, inner wings, scuttle, Hinge post.  the lot.

I currently have it all screwed together.

I bought a 2nd hand bonnet, it was split in the centre and has some rust, Ive stripped the bonnet into pieces, treated, painted and put back together.

Trial fit bonnet , 5mm bonnet to wing on offside front and back.

Near side 5mm at front and 8 > 9mm at  rear.

Purchase new bonnet - Fit is worse that the other bonner I have.

Makes me question if I have the from on correctly?

The inner wing is tight up against the bulkhead

The scuttle looks like is in the right place.

The wing to scuttle is good

I cant see how I can get the inner wing over further

If I could I don't see that the wing to scuttle will allow for any more movement

Any suggestions?

Can someone measure inner wing to inner wing at front and just in front of Scuttle please

Is the bonnet a pattern one or Heritage??

Is the scuttle fitted or clamped in place.

Have you dressed the return under the wing back as you may get a bit more movement there plus you could sharpen the fold on the wing where it wraps against the scuttle.

I replaced my clubby bonnet with a Heritage item and still had a small runout but this was solved with some cutting and adding in metal. Not a big gap like yours.

And some measurements that might help you.

And this was the run out you can see at the back of the bonnet. This was the original bonnet as well. The previous wing gap was bad but no pictures of them.

I had this problem, I set up the frontend using the original rusty bonnet, gaps were great  :D

I then purchased a heritage bonnet and the Gaps were massive  O_O

I did find the the new bonnet was curved so the center was higher than the scuttle panel. A bit of questionable pressure in the correct locations has improved it. I have also seen people cut down the edge and pull it over to improve the gap then make good but I was too scared to do that to a brand new bonnet.

Good luck with it  ;D

Heritage new purchase from Bul Motif
Is the scuttle fitted or clamped in place.
It’s screwed in 5 points, I have a slight gap in couple of places, will add a few more screws.

Have you dressed the return under the wing back as you may get a bit more movement there plus you could sharpen the fold on the wing where it wraps against the scuttle.
Not sure what you mean by return. Your wing appears to touch the drip gutter on the scuttle. Mine had a fairly big gap both sides (will get a picture) I will try to sharped the wing at scuttle joint. The gap at the top is good but might squeeze a mm out.
I replaced my clubby bonnet with a Heritage item and still had a small runout but this was solved with some cutting and adding in metal. Not a big gap like yours.

Yes making up 4mm is going to need more than a slit and weld. Adding material is going more welding, heat and ripples

Thanks fior the help and pictures
