Hi all,
I had a drive the other day and my yellow light came on then went off then stayed on. Then my battery light came on so I got home and turned it off. The car was working fine and oil at right level.
I fitted a new stereo and updated halagon lights previously so thought I would fit a new uprated 65amp alternator.
I took the wire and little black box from the old one and fitted to the new one then installed the alternator.
Now when I turn the ignition on the red and yellow lights don't illuminate like they used to. All other lights work on the dash and I checked the bulbs which work fine.
I also have separate issues where my wipers, temp and fuel gauge don't work..
Thanks for any advice.

Hi, you haven't said what model mini you have so I'm taking a guess here but your charge warning light, oil pressure light, fuel gauge and temperature gauge all share a power feed (they come together at the voltage stabiliser). Check to see if you have a voltage feed to the stabiliser or a loose wire somewhere behind the dash.

Hi I noticed this wire disconnected out of the clocks connector block - number 7?
Can't see where it would connect to though.
Before I changed the alternator both lights worked as normal but fuel and damp have never worked.
It's a 88 city e.

If it is a white wire it is a likely culprit. Take a look at the wiring diagrams that are a sticky at the top the problems/questions/technical page, there is a diagram for 84-88 and another for 88 onwards. Not sure which one your car would come under but the wiring is very very similar and you would be looking for the white wire running to the multiplug connector behind the clocks (then goes into the voltage regulator), this runs back to the ignition switch, if I remember the connection is at the fuse box itself so this is also where to check . As you have lost both lights and both gauges, this feed is the first thing to check.
Be careful if you poking around with the ignition on as this stray wire will be live.

They are all ignition fed lives.
