I have a choice of two rads to fit but would like to test both off the car

I can fit bungs to hose outlets and leave the cap in

I think the cap is 15psi

So can I just pressure it up with air through the overflow just below 15psi and see it it holds pressure

I had a mk1 heater matrix that I tested at 20 psi in a bucket water for a few minutes and all was fine until I put it in the car and it leaked.

I`m guessing the heat expanded things enough to leak as when I tested it again at 25 - 30 psi it still didn`t show me where the leak was so I soldered the hell out of it and job done .

So you might want to just test them on the car ?

Yes, that's how I test them with air pressure, only I take them up to 20 PSI as absx2 has suggested. I have a test kit that has a gauge, so I just pump it up (it has it's only small hand pump) and then leave it for 4 hours to over-night and check the gauge again. Before I had this kit, I'd pressuring them from the air compressor, setting the reg way down and then put the core in a tub of water, looking for air bubbles.

I was going to use the compressor with a tyre inflator and do a leak down style test
