I have a non-ballast system and I'm currently using the Classic Mini Bosch Blue ignition coil 3 0hms with a 59D A+ electronic distributor in my '84 998 Mini.  Does this sound okay?  The car has very low mileage and runs really well.  But I don't want to have an ignition problem in the near future.

The factory electronic version used a remote amplifier module, similar to the one attached to the side of the later Type 65 dizzies. If you have one of those it should have a GCL143 coil - or follow AC Dodds advice and use a good quality ballasted (1.5ohm) coil.

Electronic 59DM4's were never standard equipment on Minis, so could it be a 59 that's been converted? In that case it all depends on the conversion used, some will work with a 3ohm coil.

I use a 59D converted to H&H electronic ignition and use a Bosch blue coil (3 ohm) with no problems.

Thanks Croc7.  That's reassuring.
