Have you connected the vacuum lines to the right connectors on back of the carb?Close the vacuum to the brake servo and check if it is running right then.

On your log-file the manifold pressure (map) was high at 39 to 40, i realiced that but thaught it depended on the high idling.This should be between 25 and 30 on normal idling, if it is higher there is a leak .

Thanks Genpop, I'm going to remove the throttle body again this evening as someone else has said that there is a problem with linkage and the helper spring I mentioned shouldn't be there and has been added as bodge to fix another issue.

 

I will double check all the vacuum pipes but they are brand new as is the vapor collector. The only thing I haven't done is cleaned the MAP inlet on the ECU. I'll do that later too.

Thanks for the pictures, mine looks very similar but has the fuel regulator next to the injector. I stripped the throttle body from the car over the weekend and will check it this week. I also found the thermostat had failed in the open position. I'm ordering all the required parts this week so I can't proceed until those parts have arrived. I'll update you then, thanks.

Sorry it's been a while since I last posted, been working on my other Mini getting it MOT'd. I'm now back on my 94 Cooper SPi. I have an update, I replaced the thermostat, the vacuum seal to the brake master cylinder and the whole inlet manifold, throttle body and air filter with one I sourced from FB marketplace.

 

The engine now starts and idles great but will not accelerate. It's almost impossible to drive, you have to slowly increase the engine revs and pull the clutch out to get it to move, even then it's like a galloping horse with no power.

 

I took a MEMS capture from cold and have attached it here, I just wondered if you could see anything obvious in the data?

Problem sorted, I had pushed the vacuum pipe onto the fuel trap too far and blocked it

Yes that could match your logfile.But if you log again then log until the water is hot. I would do a reset because longtermfueltrim is still at 138.That means higher fuel consumption.Attached is a graph of your cold start.txt. You see the map falling in a curve but not reaching 25mbar and IAC (stepper) staying at a whigh level, should drop to 25-30.Water temp not rising!

I have done another cold start log and attached it here. The fuel trim seems to be coming down on its own, the problem is I can't drive very far as the car has no MOT or TAX. I'm going to replace the clutch and then take it for an MOT.

 

Let me know what you think of the latest log, car starts fine now and idles and revs without any issues. All faults are gone so it's looking good.

Looks normal now.But  log is too short to tell more. Should be at least as long until engine has 90 degrees.

I bought a used throttlebody/inlet manifold complete from someone on Facebook Marketplace. I haven't touched the car in over 6 months and it's still not on the road yet so one day I might find the problem with the original inlet manifold.

I had a similar problem where the car would start with a bit of fuel down the throttle body, run fine, but wouldn't restart.

My ACR4 did not register a fault code.

I'm only guessing but the ECU won't allow an injection event under certain circumstances.

I can only assume that with the adding of fuel and the engine starting that the revs it reads from the crank angle sensor overrides the withholding of injection signals 

In my case it was a new but faulty coolant temperature sensor that caused my problems.

I discovered this by disconnecting all sensors which allows the ECU to go into a default mode with factory set default temp values.

Plugging them back in one by one revealed the fautly CTS.

The only thing I could figure is the ECU didn't like the voltage it was reading at it's reference point or back through the common sensor return.

I put my old sensor back in and have never had the problem again.

Fixed it. Found deteriorated fuel hose inside fuel tank. The small hose from pump to metal line. Replaced the hose and car runs perfect.
