I have a 1990 A+ 1275 carb Cooper. I fitted new valve guides today. Spec should be 13.72mm above spring seat area. However when I checked there is a difference between the depth of each spring seat area. For example measuring from the machined face where the rocker gear is fixed to the bottom of each spring seat I have measured a variation of 0.7mm across the 8 spring seats.

Before removing my original guides I checked them with a straight edge & there was variation between them which I put down to them having drifted over the years.

Rather than have different heights of guides I have set them so they are all at the same height within 5 thou (sorry for mixing imperial/metric) using No 1 & No 8 as ref. set at 13.72

Hope this makes sense.

Will this be ok?
