Now that my '97 lump of iron oxide is edging close to going back on the road I wanted to source a couple spare remotes/plips and got a spare 2 socket 5AS with them (YWC106240). Has anyone had any experience wiring the extra functions the 2-socket 5AS's bring?

E.g.:

  • Flashing indicators (as per '98+ MPIs)
  • Central locking
  • Interior light operation

Linking the interior light(s) to the 5AS alarm module

The 5AS is able to switch the interior light(s) to provide smarter interior light control with the fob control and ignition. From testing on the bench:

  • Lamp fades out after ~20sec after doors closed, no ignition
  • Lamp fades out immediately when doors closed and ignition switched on
  • Lamp fades out after ~6mins if door left open
  • Lamp illuminates for 20s when unlocked and fades out immediately when locked with fob

Needs 2 wires, lamp GND to pin 10 (COURTESY LAMP(S)) on small white connector and door switches to pin 7 (DRVS DOOR OPEN) on large grey connector. Looking at the Mini wiring diagram, requires breaking and extending both ends of the lamp Purple-White wire to the module.

I have tested the fade as working OK with an LEDs.

A quick note to add to this, I fitted a R25/R45/MGF MFU (YWC104500 Lucas 52010268D 23VT) for its lights on warning sounder (which works well, see Headlight Reminder Buzzer - Page 4 - Problems, Questions and Technical - The Mini Forum ) and found it also has an interior lamp control.   The lamp negative wire to the door switches is isolated and routed to pin 2 of the MFU, I already have the door switches wired for the headlight buzzer..

As comparison it has the following characteristics:

  • Lamp fades out after 15sec after doors closed, no ignition
  • Lamp fades out immediately when doors closed and ignition switched on
  • Lamp fades out after 8mins if door left open

At this stage the MFU is not directly connected to the 5AS so unable to test the unlocked/unalarmed illumination feature. Also have not confirmed yet it works with LEDs, though fully expect it to.

If lights-on buzzer is being considered using a 23VT MFU then this is interior lamp control a simple add-on feature.
