Its not the park switch or the cam because they are both brand new and work parking the wipers. So I suspect the stalk itself. Im not sure what the operation should be? Push down on the stalk and you get one or two wipes??? Its not the end of the world. Im considering moving the wipers to toggle switches anyway so I wont waste money kn a new stalk.

Keep it on the stalk, so much easier and if you change to toggle switches you'll need to inform your insurance as it is a modification

The stalk does seem likely, I'm sure we have some topics on reassembling it. It's a bit counterintuitive. As I recall the stalk disconnects the park circuit as it connects to the 1st speed motor windings because the park switch connects it to earth when it cuts off that supply you just fixed.

Tend to agree with Cal, BL wouldn't have splashed out on fitting wiper stalks in '76 without good reason - the tight wads didn't even throw in a 2nd door mirror!

This insurance modifications scam is interesting. Ive heard a lot of people say they had trouble. Somebody even said their clakm was denied because they had a sticker in the window?? Ive moved my dials to the centre pod. That is clearly a mod? I think I might contact my insurers and detail all the mods Ive made. Even if it costs more premium.

And ive decided to stick with the stalks. I'm moving the ignition switch across to the middle. But thats also come to think of it a mod because there wont be a steering lock.

I agree BUT declaring these silly little changes to our cars means that the insurance don't have wiggle room on a payout

Did you fit another stalk? Could still be wear on the sprocket inside the wiper motor. The ramp gets worn from 30 years of wiping

The power comes in on that lead you've already found. Then it goes via the park switch's contacts and the stalk to the motor. When the park switch opens it disconnects that supply and connects the whole lot from the motor back to the park switch to earth so there's no voltage across the motor (both sides are earthed) so it stops dead.

If you really have fettled the supply, then it's likely to be the park switch or the stalk. Try unplugging the stalk and joining brown/light green to the red/light green terminals in the plug to see if that makes 'em park - ignition on of course.

The motor is brand new and I replaced the park switch. The loom is new as well. The only thing that is old is the stalk. Ill have a fiddle with the stalk wiring and see if that helps. I already know the single wipe function is faulty

So the self parking issue is definitely the in line fuse. I'm going to swap it for a modern in line fuse. It's in the bulkhead behind the sound deadening anyway. The stalk had a broken connection on the single wipe mechanism. So I've replaced it with toggle switches in the dash. David Wilson from Wired by Wilson helped me out with the tech stuff. It has a relay and three switches. Fast\slow, wash and wipe. Looks great. I'll post some pics. I also have the idiot level wiring diagram if anyone wants it

by the way can't recommend wired by Wilson enough. Super nice bloke and really helped me out. Can't wait for the new centre switch panel he is building to turn up.

Here is my rather childish but easy to use wiring diagram for switching to toggles rather than a column arm.
