Just stripped out the clutch and brake master cylinders from my 78 clubman. The dreaded split pins took about 5 mins to exstract. Praise the Lord. However the clevis pin on the brake was rusted in solid and  due to lack of access took over an hour to extract.

On removal the yoke on the brake master cylinder had rotted away and just fell apart. Hate to think what might have happened if i had been driving and it failed.

However it appears this bottom rod with the yoke is not available as a separate part so it means a new master cylinder may need to be purchased.

Anyone else had this problem or has sourced a bottom operating rod separately.

Just buy a new cylinder. If the yoke is that bad then the internals will be the same

I've just edited the topic title to better reflect the subject.

I know many have asked and I once looked for these as a spare part, but as best I know, they aren't available separately as a spare.

I'd say your only options are to find a good used one (and be sure it comes from the same master cylinder as there's quite a few different types) or buy a new complete Master.

There was a post the other day mentioning the same part. And they bought an MGB one that was a similar size.

Moss Motors sells a pushrod for a clutch master cylinder, SKU #181-690 for about $19.00, US.  Pretty sure that the hole for the clevis pin in the yoke is the same.  I ordered one to compare overall length with an original.  Will keep the forum advised.

That was me!  Yes the MGB one is exactly the right length, the only difference is it does not have the collar for the dust seal. I'll try and find the post

Just got it in the mail, its virtually the same as the pushrod from a new spare clutch master that I had on the shelf. Can’t speak to the brake master as I have a GMC 159 installed. Hope that helps.

For the love of god and all ethereal beings, fit a new master cylinder if that push rod was rotten away.

Agreed, but there are those of us who’s wallet squeaks when its opened. I would rather rebuild a m/c and replace the pushrod as opposed to buying one built under questionable quality control conditions. Just sayin’.

But then you’d need to buy a rebuild kit, push rod, a hone, bore gauge, caliper, hone oil,...

Problem solved, bought a new MC. With so much work to do on this car one less job is a bonus

From my own experience, while a Pushrod and Clevis may be available as a spare part, if the Clevis is worn, then the rest of the cylinder isn't far behind. The Cylinder bore is usually rusty, while this maybe honed out, it won't be long before it returns. You can have them sleeved, however, often the cost of this exceeds the cost of a complete new unit. Also, usually when the cylinder does rust, it obviously grinds away at the seals and they start to leak, often this is the first indication we have that somethings not right. Usually, when they get to this point, the Piston too will be scored.

It's nice though to have them available as a spare part as some cylinders are NLA and if doing an original restoration then you'd likely wish to restore the original cylinders too.
