Hi all,

Can you use an MPI engine (1997)  in a 1992 1.3carb mini as in just before SPI?

There is NO distributor or hole in mpi block,so would need a stand alone ecu,or the full mpi ecu/set up :-)

Basically you can use any Mini power unit in any Mini but you will need to make suitable avomodations for what is there and what is not.

so you could put the complete MPi set up into a older Mini but you would need a new ignition set up or use the whole of the MPI fuelling and ignition. And suitable parts to revert back to a side Rad.

Brian Gunn charts the process of fitting an MPi engine to his 1983 Mini:-

I put a 99 MPI unit in my 70's Clubman Estate about 12 years ago but I used all of the wiring/ECU/5AS stuff from the crashed John Cooper LE. Still going strong with no issues. I made my own adaptations to the flat van type petrol tank to house the pump - should be much easier in a saloon as the MPI tank is a direct fit. You will also need extra fuel pipes - feed, return and vent.

Quite a few parts to the story
