Hi all,

Back again. I have to remove my fuel tank, but can't quite figure out how to get to the required bolts.

I have already drained the tank. I have misplaced my trusty Haynes so can't quite look it up until I dig it back up haha.

My fuel tank hasn't been installed quite right by whoever installed it many moons ago, the fuel tank strap doesn't sit in the recess for it across the tank, and the strap seems to be bent quite creatively in order to get the tank secured.

The bolt at the bottom by the light cluster I can't reach, not even with needle nose pliers, they won't fit in the space between the strap and the bolt, and the bolt that goes into the rear "bulkhead" behind the rear seats is not really reachable unless I suddenly grew rubber arms or something. I tried pulling the rear seats and see if I could undo it from the interior side, but it seems it is a welded on nut that the bolt treads into. How do I remove the fuel tank, or rather the bolts that hold the tank strap in place?

I have a new rubber neck seal and foam ring, as well as a new cage nut and new strap ready to go in too, so I can fix it properly now.

Thanks guys!

If you are replacing the strap then get the snips out.

You need a 1/2 socket on an extension bar to get at the lower bolt or 13mm if you have metric.

That's all you need to get the tank out

As above you only need to undo that one bolt which is below the tail light area.

Is that one bolt behind the tank then? I really can't see behind there, is the bolt on the 'inside', behind the tank?

In the weekend I can't really go look, I'll try monday or tuesday to go have a look.

The one behind the tank on the back of the rear seat frame - no. This can be left in place until the tank is out.

Open the boot, look inside below the tail light. Its there. You really cant miss it.

And you also need to remove the rubber collar on the filler neck at body panel opening.

Good time to renew the fuel line from tank to pump and all sections to engine. When I needed to shift my tank to get access to shock top nut, the hose out bottom of tank fractured and I didn't notice for an hour or more, fuel spilling in garage. That bit of hose was brittle and ready fail anytime. Highly recommend renewal if age is unknown. Use modern ethanol safe fuel line.
