Good evening everyone. I had to cancel the MOT today. I set off but had to park up and turn the engine off. I tried to restart it to no avail. I had a thick blue spark, looked for fuelling issues but fuel was getting in the carb and dash pot. Once I'd ran the battery too low, I recharged it. It now starts again. I'm not sure whether it could be a dodgy battery because it turns the car over really fast, until I drained it from constantly trying to start it. Typically with old mopeds that would indicate a bad condenser. But with the mini I'm at a loss. Thanks, babs

You don't state your Mini year of make.

Failing that - if you have a carburettor - do you have oil in the dashpot ?

Any smoke issues?
Where did you check the spark?
Ht leads points or where? Could be dizzy cap/rotor arm.

I would also check the negative under the engine mount below the master cylinder. Have seen them loose connection causing your issues..

Oh yes it's 1990 city e. 999. Yes there's plenty of fresh oil in the dash pot.

There's no issues with smoke, I checked the spark at the plug attached to the HT resting on the Block. I do have a sparkrite sx2000 spark booster module clamped to my coil. I'm going to remove this and see if it remedies the issue. I'm tempted to remove the points system and fit an electronic ignition but I want to sort out any underlying issues first. To add to the complications I wasn't getting much fuel to the plugs when turning over. I'm wondering if this is another separate issue with the fuel pump, but that wouldn't really explain why it restarts once cooled down again

My thinking now could be to much air and not a tight enough seal on inlet or exhaust..

Little update, I removed the sparkrite sx2000 spark booster module and rev counter. This seemed to have solved the problem. Not sure how or what specifically caused it , but when I try to connect the rev counter up now it kills the engine, so I'm sure that's the main culprit
