I have a HS6 carb which I want to use but have a query.

The intake, from air filter, is about 40mm and the main throat is 44mm. On the HIF44 it is 44mm all the way through.

I've noticed on an MGB forum that the intake can be bored out to match the 44mm. Is this an accepted way for improving air flow efficiency or will it adversely effect the torque curve.

The engine is a 1098 +0.100 with Calver head and BP255 cam.

Can’t remember what the carb intake is like on the HS6. Is it radiused like the HIF44.

and TBF the carb should be fine fir that spec without further mods.

No, the inlet is flat. Could fit a stub stack or radius it myself. I know that when a HIF44 is fitted to this type of engine sorting the needle was problematic for some reason.

The 'outlet' from the Carb is a little smaller than the 'inlet'. The size (HS6 = 1-3/4") is measured off the 'Inlet'. Measure the actual size of the 'outlet' of the Carb first. It's been a long while since I measured one, I can't recall the exact size of a HS6.

The manifold end is 44mm. The air filter end is 40mm. So 1-3/4 and 1-5/8"
