Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone has ever fitted a cherry bomb to their mini or if anyone knows a good exhaust with a loud sound.

Thanks

I had a cherry bomb on a 1293cc, 643 cam, big valve head, 1.5 ratio rockers etc back in the early 80's, LCB manifold 2" system with the cherry bomb central out the back with a piece of Panther Lima ( look it up) bumper welded on for an up swept tail pipe, if I say it was loud, that would be an under statement, in the end I got nicked for it even in those days, get an RC40, all the power without the nick.

Excessively loud exhausts just attract the wrong attention .. plus they fail mots now.

I watched my mot guys tearing the cherry bomb exhaust from a car to replace it with a bog standard system to get it to pass for the guy ... it went in the boot in lots of bits!

Our old neighbour had one on his 1275. Sounded awful and was a nuisance when he was on an early shift, waking everyone up at 5am.

The only time I've used a Cherry Bomb was when I fitted it before the Maniflow main silencer box on my Mk.1 Cooper 'S'. It was to make the car quiet enough to pass rally noise tests.

That was fine for a while, but even then it became on the noise limit after about 6 rallies, so I changed it for a twin-box RC40 system and that is fine and has lasted well. I did weld some skid plates onto the front of both RC40 boxes to strengthen up the system.

I would hate to have a single cherry bomb as it would be ludicrously noisy and to have a noisy but relatively slow car (compared to modern cars) is a bit pointless really.

Oh the “good old” cherry bomb. I remember them from back in the 80s. Available in a number of different lengths and woeful silencing ability. Always blew the wadding out faster than any other box.

I fitted a 2 inch full system to my 998, sounds the nuts even on over run.

Ive got a single silencer side exit on my 998 which is too loud for me.

Il be swapping it to a centre exit twin box set up at some point.

A twin box centre exit RC40 system is excellent in terms of performance and sound. It is not too loud, but does sound 'throaty'.

My Grandson has a 998 (well, it's 1060 cc actually) and that has a single RC40 centre exit. I find it just acceptable and not annoying, but for a 1275 twin boxes are best.
