Hi gurus.
I’m after some advice again.
I’ve had a good hunt on the forum but no definitive answer and a bunch of photos that don’t work/out of date.

I want to remove the lower dash pad from my mk3 (ignition, wiper and lights on switch panel) and it seems as though there are a few obstacles to overcome.
The clean Mk1/2 is the ideal look I’m aiming to achieve
I cannot weld, so the fillet strip others have done isn’t an option unfortunately.

A- can I just remove the “extension brackets” from the existing switch panel and bolt the switch panel back in situ? I guess no, due to the obscure shape of the hole left behind

B-is there an off the shelf “panel” that will fit flush enabling the original panel to be bolted back in place?

C- is there a totally new panel (wired by Wilson or similar) that can be bolted in place and the original switches fitted?

D- is there a fully aftermarket option available with switches etc so it’s just plug and play?

Thanks so much for any advice, a photo says a thousand words so the more the better 😁

(I have none unfortunately as the mini isn’t currently in the garage)

DSN do replacement switch panels that will take the existing switches and choke/heater controls

Hi kts
Thanks for the reply but I think you missed my hopeful end result.
I checked the dsn website.

They do either mk3 onwards OR mk1/2.

I cannot see a conversion panel to swap from mk3 to earlier “padless” lower dash rails.

I’m happy to be proven wrong. 😁

i used the LCV type switch panel when I got rid of the padded dash rail in my pickup

I don't know for sure, but assume as the padded dash rail fits a pickup, that the switch panel aperture in the rail would be the same as mk3 onward, so the LCV type switch panel from DSN should fit the later models.

Give DSN a call to check

Perfect.
A tried and tested method.

My only query is (lcv I assume is; light commercial vehicle?) would the van/pickup lower dash be the same as a “normal” later mini or closer to the mk1/2

Any photos?
It Sounds like you’ve done exactly what I’m trying to achieve albeit with a different variety.

Thanks.

as above; my assumption is that as the padded setup fits, the dash rail in my '81 pickup is the same as that used in the mk3 and beyond

..with the DSN LCV type switch panel

and just for clarity; the dash rail was not replaced when the car was rebuilt  ;D

Perfect.
Thanks so much.

Look at that fuse box and how immaculate your build is.... do you have a build thread? I’d be interested in having a look at some more of your handy work.
