Hi all,

Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere - I can't find an answer

My Mini fuel gauge will not read correctly.  Only goes to 3/4 when full.

I have tried 2 new sender units (out of the tank) and both are the same. I have also tried a different sent of clocks and that only reads 3/4 when full.

If i short  the wires out both sets of clocks show full.

Runing out of ideas - can anyone suggest anything please

They are the 3 clock Nippon seiki type

I don't know if the temp gauge is accurate but it does show hot if shorted

Thanks

Steve

Got a similar thing on mine, 3/4 when the tank is full and when it gets into the red I tend to have about half a tank actually left... I'm well accustomed to it now but on the to do list somewhere

That is probably the sender wire wants adjusting. Mine reads ok when empty so is something to do this calibration but I don't know how to check

Can you use a mirror and light or a cheap borescope to see if the float or arm is getting stuck against someplace when trying to float up fully?

As Tornado suggests, the Arm will likely be getting stopped on the Filler Pipe, in the later tanks, they extend a fair way in to the tank to leave an an air pocket to allow for expansion, they can often foul on that.

A bit or a bend the the arm usually is all that's needed to get them to clear.

Yes, out of the tank it will likely be fine, but it's probably fouling on the filler neck in the tank.

Thanks for the suggestions. Third time lucky on the gauge.  So the sender was ok

Can’t believe two wrong gauges!
