Hi

Out on a short run approaching junction and engine on my open classic died. Back home it appears:
Turns over ok
Spark is good
Fuel comes out of pipe when removed from carb
Plugs are dry and no smell of fuel

Car has been stood 15 years but has run great until now.

Is a jet blockage or failure likely?

Any advice on where to start appreciated.

Thanks

Gary

As the plugs are dry I'd start with the carb.

Try tricking a small amount of fuel into the carb throat .. if it starts, or tries, that would suggest a blocked jet.

Hi

Removed the bottom plate and jet assembly, blew it, reassembled and seems fine.

Was it likely to be a random one off or should i do / check more?

Thoughts appreciated.

Thanks

Gary

You say it's been stood for 15 years. Have the fuel tank, lines, float bowls etc. been replaced / flushed out? Fuel filter installed?

As above, get one of those throw away fuel filters , and replace it when you can see its "dirty". I have one on my Mini and despite "cleaning" everything you would be amazed how much "crap" is in the fuel / tank... the first one I installed after putting the car back on the road was filty in under 200 miles, the next about 500 miles, now the one on there has been there for a year (I know its lock down) and looks fine still.

I use one like this

Thanks for the advice.

Fuel filter seems a must. Where in the system is it best fitted?

I'll order a couple 😁

I fit mine as close to the carb as possible, and try to keep it as far away from the exhaust as possible..
