Hi there,

I felt like I've seen a topic like this before here, but a search is failing me so I'm reaching out for advice :-)

I have a couple of ZKW 408 fog lamps fitted to my Mini, but they are all misty on the inside of the glass. After removing the bulb, I can feel that there is a greasy residue instead of condensation, and I'm hoping to clean them up to make the car look a little nicer.

Can anyone provide some tips for doing this? I can't see an obvious way to remove the glass, so is it a matter of cleaning through the back hole where the bulb sits? Is water sufficient or some other product?

Many thanks.

Most fog lamps I have worked on are easy to open up.

Funnily an article for this issue is in the latest (April) edition in CooperWorld.

It is for the genuine Rover fog and driving lights, but suspect would work for most lamps. The article was originally by Steve Dummett and posted on the Mini Cooper Sport 500 Facebook page.

Essentially dismantle as much as possible and then spray Holt's brake cleaner through the hole in the back of the lamp. Enough to swill the cleaner around inside and then agitate with a small paint brush and then tip out. If fogging still exists then repeat and then let the residue solvent evaporate before reassembly.

Hi cooperd70 and Blake71 - this is exactly what I need, thank you so much! You’ve shortcutted far too much Googling (and getting only MINI results ☹️) on my part. Now to get some brake cleaner..

Dragging this up because it was spot on (pun indented) and just what I was asking myself tonight. All 4 of my factory spots were fogged. This worked great!

One note on the video above. I was able to modify a tooth brush with a 90° bend at the end and negate having to remove the bulb holder.
