I know this has probably been talked through to death, and I’m not really considering it as I’d rather put money into the body work and paint issues on my car rather than engine performance. But I was thinking how much does the ECU actually limit performance upgrades on an MPI. I have the MEMS 2J ECU but say for arguments sake, I was to get the head breathing better and fit 1.5 rocker arms and also change the cam. Would the ECU be able to cope with this? Why about bigger piston sizes etc?

If you are changing the cam then there is little point in fitting 1.5 rockers just fit a hotter cam.
but I would not do the rockers or a hotter cam as you will make the car less drivable. Increase valve train wear.
pick the cam for what you will be using the car for. Then don’t make it worse to drive b6 moving the power bad up the Rev range and lose bottom end torque.
the ECU will sort its self out but the MPI does have limitations.
