Hi folks
Long story short my fan belt snapped yesterday, the AA bodged a belt on but I need the correct length.

998 A plus manual transmission. I'm unsure of pulley sizes that are on the car.

Many thanks

Cal

Did you manage to save the old one - it'll be marked or you can measure it. Or you could wrap some string/rope/wire around the pulleys and measure that.

Failing that, put up a pic of your water pump pulley, but its probably a GCB10838 you need.

I'll get an image up shortly, the belt that was on the car was binned by the AA guy, there wasn't any marks on it

Was it "cogged" or smooth? There may be witness marks on the pulley if you're not sure.

You should be able to get the 825mm belt to fit, even if you have to unbolt the alternator to thread it on.

It was a cogged belt but they were almost smooth

Pic of fan pulley (is this the standard A+ pulley or the larger one?)

That looks to be one of the smaller ones, most likely CAM116

Best to measure it to be sure.

Get a piece of washing line and put it in the place the fan belt goes and pull it tight around the pulleys.  Set the alternator about mid-way of its available travel. The correct fan belt length is the length of the rope from beginning to where it meets in mm.

I've got one from a local parts supplier, 825 is the number on the packet so we shall see how good it fits, according to thier system there isn't any other choices

According to MS belt desc for the 825 belt:
"CAM6239 pulley 3.875" wide and CAM6408 pulley used from A plus onwards is 4.75"wide."

So measure your fan pulley. Select either 825 or 838. Belt to suit.

Remember that your new belt will stretch after just a few miles and need readjusting.

Most (all?) modern cars using rubber belts have tensioners

I don't think belts stretch as much as deform so they sit further in the V - modern cars tend to use tooth or multi grove belts, they need less bearing stressing tension too.
