Hi again,

Fitted my new 1330 engine, damn that thing flies. I had to install my old HS4 from my 998 because the HIF44 won't fit. It hits the firewall.

I read somewhere that there are two types of subframes so the engine sits more in front (from SPI on?). Is there a way I can get arround this without grinding a hole in my firewall? Is a pancake filter an option?

Car is a mini 1000 from 1990

In attachement a picture of the setup:

  • minispares water cooled inlet manifold
  • spacer
  • bracket
  • HIF44
  • cone filter

Thanks,

Jens

You can swap the phenolic spacer for a thinner one. The thinner ones are 6mm thick if that would help matters

Is your filter on the correct way? Seems low to me. As you said, later subframe have the engine mounting holes 1/2" further forward with longer gear linkages as well. You can may be able to get an adjustable engine steady to angle the engine forwards. You could get a thinner carb spacer/machine the current one down to gain a few millimetres.

I welded the holes and drilled them 1/2" further forwards.

The filter looks upside down. The choke holes in the filter backplate should line up with the choke holes on the carb.  There are several filters that will fit with either center or offset holes.

Different manifolds have diiferent dimensions.

The CAM6618 is slightly shorter in that dimension.

Buy the E.R.A type adjustable top engine steady and tilt the engine forward slightly.

Phil.

I was considering that but I was thinking it would put strain on my silentblocks, wouldn't it?

Then the holes are drilled wrong in the filter plate, I bought it as a unit. I'll try that!

Recently fitted the thinner spacer. Not yet fitted the carb, but seems have a little more room.

Let me know when you fit it.

Carb & MED filter fitted today. The thinner spacer gives you a bit more room to play with & the filter fits in nicely.

Fitted the filter right side up by the way and I only have a couple of millimeters clearance so I'm going to fit a thinner spacer. Still waiting on my order from minispares, 5 days and still not shipped.... very sad how they are getting worse throughout the years

Haven’t fired it up yet. Battery is on charge.

Hoping to get it fired up tomorrow all being well.
