Hi all, iv decided to put my mini on the road this year. My insurance want to know what my BHP is, both as the engine was originally & after its engine mods. It’s a clubman 1275gt with a MG metro engine, it is a stage one with a 12g940 head & a KentMD266 camshaft. Would anyone be able to tell me what the original and current BHP might be?

thanks

Wont be a huge uplift as thats a fairly tame cam. 55hp original and probably 70hp now. If you have had head and cam work then a rolling road is worth its weight in gold to get your carb properly set up.

Thanks, what would the MG metro engine be producing as standard?

Thanks guys, I’d love to get it on a rolling road one day and get it tuned properly. I’ve got good oil pressure but there is oil coming out of somewhere and the engine is covered, I’ll have to clean the engine and change the rocker gasket & see if that does the job then I can find a rolling road.

Thanks for your help

I have a rolling road print out for my engine,MG Metro, stage 1 kit ,HIF44 carb etc....somewhere around 57bhp at the wheels I recall.

I thought this what a bit low but since I've been working on the car I've realised it was badly set up.Whether it was at the time of the rolling road session I don't know as it was before I owned it.

MG Metro as mentioned above was 72hp as standard, your unlikely to be seeing much more than that as the 266 will be no better than the MG cam and 12G940 is just a casting number so means nothing on its own. The MG already had improved inlet and exhaust manifolds, so again the stage 1 kit will have added little if anything.
As all rolling roads vary I’m not sure how the insurance company could tie you down to an exact power figure anyway.

Phil.

Thanks guys, I’ve submitted it as 70bhp after mods. I was hoping that the insurance company with all their knowledge could have advised me.

thanks all
