Assuming you're on a computer:

Click on your name (upper right of screen),

Click 'My Profile',

Scroll down and the number is there, under 'Private Information'

i'm sure i'm just being dim but i cant find private information let alone membership number

Nope its not. Unless i am directly contacted via pm requesting your membership number it will not show there automatically.
