Switching From 13X7 Back To Original 1991 Mayfair Size Wheels

Best Answer mab01uk , 30 April 2021 - 11:03 AM

13 x 7 wheels will almost certainly mean the front wings have been cut forward under the Group 6 arches to allow full lock steering......even the 13 x 6 fitted to the Rover Sportspack MPi Minis had cutaway front arches for steering clearance on full lock.

It is unlikely the Group 6 arch fixing holes will line up with the standard Mini plastic arches.

12" Pepperpot style alloy wheels were fitted to later 'Mini Seven' versions of the Mini range as in photo below with 145/70x12 tyres or you could fit slightly wider 165/60x12 tyres to the same rims.

Hello all,

My 1991 Mayfair has huge 13x7 wheels and wide arches fitted by the previous owner, as well as a custom dash and various other "sporty" customisations. I'm trying to get it back to a more subtle look. As such I could do with some advice on the wheels and arches. I've read on the automobile catalogue that my Mark V/VI had 12" wheels as standard with 145/70 tyres.

Does anybody know if there is a "pepperpot" style alloy in this size or similar? If not, what minilite size would I be looking at? Also do I need to do anything special when dropping down from 13x7 wheels?

In relation to the arches, what would a rover mayfair of that time period have had? Mini spares do a "special" arch which says its a standard rover one, is this likely to bolt into the same place as the huge group 6 (i think) ones on there currently.

I'm new to the Mini scene and I really appreciate any advice experienced owners can offer.

Thank you.

What needs doing depends on what was done to fit the 13s.

for that you will need to pull the arches off and look.

but if you are lucky you will have nothing to do.

For wheels . Look on MiniSpares pages to see your options.

Thank you for the reply and the image. I've had a look under the arches and it does seem as though the front has been cut somewhat which is disappointing. I'm due to have the body prepped and sprayed so hopefully they can sort out the arch. What arches are on the image you displayed? They are nice. The pepperpot wheels are just what I'm after, thank you for the link.

The arches on the red Mini in the image are standard plastic Mini arches, often called Mini Special arches but they are not normally painted from the factory.

And just to be clear, the pepperpot alloys shown are exactly the same size as the steel wheels your Mayfair would have come with - 4.5 x 12, as are the arches (they'd have been matt black on your car originally).
