Should just be a straight swap, I did the same on my car as I got annoyed with the canister and its tendency to make oil changes a messy affair! Pretty sure it's a paper gasket.

You will need to change the fixings. And get the correct gasket.

Here’s everything that you need https://www.morrismi...-filter-p830101 Minispares probably do the same kit.

Is the pipe from the block to filter head the same on both??

I used the same one when I changed mine over.

Pipe is indeed the same.
A little more time consuming than I thought.
The studs on the canister head are so long they must be removed with the head in place as the slam panel support is in the way.
Had to cut a new gasket using the tatterd remains of the old one.
Job done though..... rest in piece you pain in the arse canister filter.
I do like originality....but the filter head and filter are pretty well hidden.....my pipe is still engine green.

you can get a spin on head (older type) which uses the same studs. I got one when I swapped
