Fastest way to not get a subscriber. Not even a voice over correcting the info.

Rant over.

and then EBay prices and descriptions some are just barefaced lies.

Yep its been a fun day.

The problem is you being experienced can spot errors, whereas some people see you tube as gospel. There is some danger here.I find some of the "experts" cringeworthy and I am only a dabbler.Steve..

I taught college automotive courses for a number of years, my students used to tell me that rather than read the manual they would just watch a YouTube vid to learn how to do something on their car. So, even tho they had the correct info right at their finger tips in the college's computers they preferred to watch someone else do it, then copy them. I understand their thinking, it is easier to learn by watching someone rather than just reading about it - BUT - the question I always asked them is how do you know the guy in the video is doing it right?

More often than not I would find things I disagreed with in the vids they showed me.....

Utube does need to be taken with a large handful of salt. [there's very good + utterly rubbish]

A few years ago , when Apple stopped the 3.5mm headphone jack.
Some 'joker' put a video out showing how to drill a 3.5mm hole to get back to the socket...!!!

A similar problem exists in printed material though to a lesser degree. There is a perception that having something published gives it an ‘authority’. Some YouTube stuff is similar, particularly that which is presented in a profession way.

I can’t ever recall looking for tech info on YouTube, though I was once referred a to a clip for comment, I cringed on the first 30 seconds and stopped it about the 1 minute mark. Professionally produced but some of the worst advice.

Like wise I use it for entertainment. But some of these tubers….. when, as you say, you start cringing at 30 sec …. Don’t they watch it back before putting it out.

Besides the incorrect info, one of the issues I have is with the terrible camera work, they're usually doing it with their phone hand held and paying absolutely no attention to where the camera is pointed.....

My main use is for a reference of what things look like once they are apart. Other than that, is mostly what not to do.

In fairness I use it a lot on my modern Alfa. There is no workshop manual. How do I pull the door card off? 1min and I roughly know. Etc etc. Just need to apply a dollup of common sense with it.

Project binky is on you tube...

And they are not showing people how to do things. They are just recording what the are doing. Two very different things and they know what they are doing.

i think this is whats missing from a lot of the you tube videos, they're great for getting the gist of things(the order of dismantling/rebuild, the weird clips or specific socket sizes) but for the most part i don't think common sense is as common as it should be!
