I have had an engine kicking around the workshop for over a decade and decided to do something with it.

 

I have only every worked on A+ units so if anyone can tell me how old this A  might be and whether it is the 1300GT it was sold as, I'd be grateful. It has no number tag unfortunately but it's got :

 

12G940 11 stud 'flat top' head with 36/31 valves, 'lead free' inserts on the exhausts, bronze guides and ported 

Twin 1.25 SU

12G1279 block with duplex untensioned timing chain driving a 266 cam

A+ crank 

12G1507 rods

A+ DAM5626 gearbox casing with pre-Verto clutch 

 

Obv the crank, cam and gearbox aren't original 1300GT but does the rest sound about right ? What year were the 'flat top' heads used up to for a start ?

12G295 head is for the small block, you sure that's right?

12G1279 was the 1275/ADO16 1300GT block.

 

desirable for the historic racers as they can use it. 
 

if it is on standard bore get it advertised.

+60 unfortunately and it may have to go another. Are there any 50 year old engines still on a standard bore?

Flat top 12G940 heads were still used on the very early A+ engines.

12G1279 was a standard 1275 casting used on just about all solid back 1275 engines.

There are differences between 12G1279 blocks, some are more desirable than others. The majority have a casting hole above the centre main bearing, a few late castings don't, but I don't think there's any way accurate way of telling from the external appearance.
