I'd like to revert to the original 3 clock binnacle dash in my 1989 mini racing green edition 998.

Currently it has what looks like a later Cooper dash.

I'm assuming the clocks are the same so no need to change anything? - but what other works do I need to plan for to make this change?

Presumably I'll need to find a binnacle mounting bracket and a binnacle housing - any other parts?

The cardboard shelf lining and bulkhead lining still seem to be there.

So to be clear i'll be changing from the aftermarket dash on the lright (mine) to the one on the left ( the orignal set-up) Thanks.

The instruments will fit into a binnacle easily as long as the binnacle and frame you buy has all the clips and spire clips attached to it, and your instruments have all there plastic shrouds intact, you should just need to sort the various screws you'll need. The eyeball vents if they've not been messed about will need the shrouds but they're always on eBay.
For used parts I've always found Minimine on eBay very good quality and accommodating.

Thanks Chris - some of the binnacles on ebay look as if they may be missing clips although I've not  yet found any decent images of an original one to compare.

Yes I suspect the eyeballs have been messed with.

Instrument shrouds may possibly be a problem as the chrome bezels are just glued in. Don't know if that's a clue.

Also there is a quite a lot of wiring which looks modified  behind the dash although its nicely done.

Probably best just to make a start, take out the walnut , and see what I find!

Sorry used parts on eBay is mini technique-94 not minimine. The chrome bezels are not needed off the dash as the binnacle has its own. The wiring can be tidied up and the binnacle covers it.

Aha - Thanks.

Those brackets seem available.

Not many black binnacles around though.

( love that word! )

Are the 1275 3 clock ones the same as I need?

I'm looking to do the same and am struggling (or I would be if I was properly trying) to source a black later 3 clock binnacle.  As far as I can tell the later ones have a hole bottom left for the alarm armed LED and (I think, but can't confirm) a smooth fascia around the clocks. I couldn't comment on whether a later one can be used.

I'm very impatient so I just bought a grey one which I'll spray up. It was cheap so I thought what the hell.
I didn't know about the alarm led- I don't have that problem. You could probably drill it if you could find a way to locate it in the right place!?
