96 Rover Mini

This is a recently aquired car. One of many issues is a non locking drivers door. I have removed the door card, handles and door lock to find the problem appears to be the disconnection of the short cranked lever attached to the lock itself and a slotted lever attached to the back of the door handle. Before I removed the lock I could see that the slotted lever has a double pronged spring clip attached (just) to it. It makes sense that the afore mentioned cranked lever attaches to this slotted lever with the spring clip holding it in place......My question is HOW.

I do have pictures of the above parts but cannot see how I can post them in support of this question.
