I`m building a 1150 cc engine (1098 crank, 295 head, Piper 255 & Stage 1 kit).

I`ve read the damper is very important when using a 1098 crank. Unfortunately, my donor 998 A+ engine came without a crank damper - will the damper from my existing 998 engine work, or will I need to find a 1098 damper?

Does anyone have a 1098 damper in good condition?

A damper is a must on a 1098.

What type of damper is on your existing 998 ?  Throw up a pic.

Sorry, I can`t get a picture without pulling the engine out or at least removing the radiator.

I have been offered a TAM 1241 damper - will this work on a 1098?

If it's in good condition, yes, that should be fine.

Check for grooving where the Oil Seal runs on it and also the condition of the rubber in the damper, it is difficult to check properly, however, give the rubber a poke in a few places with a screw driver, it should be fairly firm to hard.

Also check the grove for the key way.

I`m now the owner of a TAM 1241 damper, which to be fair looks in pretty good condition.

Thanks for the advice.

It does look good.

I'd suggest though, drilling the rivets and loosing that pressed steel plate as they only rattle loose.
